Mud bed method

One improperly pitched floor is all it takes.

Floating a mud bed requires mixing mortar to the right consistency and pitching the floor at exactly 1/4" per foot toward the drain, a skill that takes professional tile setters years to develop. Get the pitch wrong and water pools under your tile.

Puzzle-piece kit method

Every seam is a potential leak point.

Foam shower kit systems rely on multiple pieces fitting together perfectly, and staying that way. Every joint between pieces is a seam. Every seam is a gap water can find. And once water gets under tile, the damage is done long before you notice it.
